The NextUp program, formerly known as CAFYES (Cooperating Agencies Foster Youth Educational Support), is here to empower and support current and former foster youth in their journey to college success. NextUp offers enhanced resources to help foster youth thrive academically, socially, and personally. Whether you are new to college or continuing your education, NextUp is dedicated to helping you overcome challenges and achieve your academic goals.

NextUp Services and Resources

NextUp at Mendocino College provides services and resources to meet the unique needs of foster youth. These resources are designed to support you not just in the classroom but in all aspects of your college experience:

  • Educational Planning & Academic Counseling

  • Priority Registration

  • Child Care Support

  • Food and Housing Assistance

  • Transportation Assistance

  • Financial Support for School Expenses and more!

Eligibility Requirements:

The criteria for eligibility in the NextUp program are as follows:

  • Have entered the Child Care/Foster System on or after their 13th birthday.

  • Be enrolled or planning to enroll in at least 9 units.

  • Be under the age of 26  as of July 1  of the year I first enter NextUp

  • Can return to the program after turning 26 if previously disenrolled.

Summer 2026 Hours

Summer  2026  -  ( Starting May 24 -Aug 10, 2026)

Monday - Thursday  8 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Fridays closed

Fall 2026  (The following dates below are subject to change)

Week of August 17: Monday - Friday >> 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Week of August 24: Monday - Friday >> 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Starting September 1 through the end of the calendar year:  Monday - Thursday >> 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.   Friday's 8 am-12 noon

The office will be closed on Friday, August 14th, 2026, for all staff in-service from 8 am-12 noon. Will resume from 1-5 pm on August 14th, 2026.
