    “Let’s paint the town pink!” exclaims Joel Shura, director of the Mendocino College production of Legally Blonde: The Musical, as he cheers his cast on in these final weeks of rehearsals for what will surely be a dazzling performance.  The show, which runs April 10 through 19 celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Mendocino College Center for Visual and Performing Arts and is sure to delight all!

    Lake County Friends of Mendocino College and the Friends of the Mendocino College Library are co-sponsoring a reading event featuring guest readers Armando Garcia-Dávila and Waights Taylor Jr. on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM in room 7050 at the Mendocino College Lake Center. The center is located at 2565 Parallel Drive in Lakeport. Admission to this event is free.

    Mendocino College is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Center for Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) with a wonderful collection of faculty art pieces.  More than thirty alumni and current art instructors are participating in this upcoming exhibit.  These artists include; Holly Brackmann, Bob Commings, and Gary Medina, who were the founding art department faculty at Mendocino College.  These faculty members played a key role in the construction of the CVPA 20 years ago.

    Mendocino College professor Jody Gehrman will offer a two day Community Extension workshop dedicated to helping aspiring novelists take their ideas to the next level. 

    “So many writers, from beginners to professionals, get stuck at some stage when writing a novel,” says Gehrman. “I know that feeling very well. Sometimes we need help getting the project in motion again. I want to give people the writing tools I’ve gathered over two decades.”

    Friends of the Mendocino College Library, an affiliate of the Mendocino College Foundation, are hosting author and former Sonoma State University Professor Jonah Raskin for a reading and talk titled “American Writing: the wild and the tame” on Thursday, February 19th at 7 PM in Mendocino College Library room 4210. 

    His latest book, A Terrible Beauty: The Wilderness of American Literature, casts a net across the whole continent of North America and explores writers as diverse as Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, F. Scott Fitzgerald and James Fenimore Cooper.

    Ukiah… Amid trays of turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and a variety of other fixings were over 200 Mendocino College Students who received a free holiday meal on Tuesday, December 09, 2014 at Mendocino College.
