Urban Introversion: Master Works by Yu Ji

Experience the evocative work of Yu Ji (b. 1954), shaped by a rich journey from early training in China to graduate studies in New York, and a decades-long academic career in Southern California. This exhibition brings together masterworks that reflect a life steeped in cultural transition and artistic evolution.

The Mendocino College Art Gallery, housed in the Center for Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020. Since its inception in 1995, the gallery has made a significant contribution to the cultural life of Mendocino County, presenting more than 100 exhibitions during this time. Celebrating regional, national, and international artists as well as MC students, the gallery stays true to its educational role and provides students with an opportunity to learn firsthand about gallery management, exhibition design, and installation practices.

The Mendocino College Repertory Dance Company is a diverse group of dancers who share an interest in dance as a performing art.  The company, which was formed in 1986, produces at least one concert each year, featuring choreographic works by students, faculty members, and guest choreographers.  Although the company maintains a primarily Modern Dance/Contemporary Dance repertoire, performances occasionally include dance theatre, jazz dance, and ballet.

Auditions for Big Love by Charles Mee, directed by Lucas Near Verbrugghe, will be held on Monday, August 11, at 6:00 pm. 

Call-backs will be on August 12, 2025, at 6:00 pm. Rehearsals begin August 18, and performances will run October 16-26.

Big Love is a modern adaptation of Aeschylus's The Suppliants, reimagined with a focus on themes of gender politics, love, and domestic violence. The story revolves around 50 brides who flee Greece to avoid forced marriages to their cousins, seeking refuge in an Italian villa.

No preparation is necessary for the auditions. A wide range of roles is available for individuals of all ages, and some non-speaking roles are featured, as well. Production crew to assist with scenery, costumes, props, lighting, and stage management is also needed. For more information, please e-mail lverbrugghe@mendocino.edu.
