Audition for Pride & Prejudice
by Kate Hamill
Pride and Prejudice is an irreverent adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel. Kate Hamill's Pride and Prejudice tells the story of the Bennet sisters as they navigate love, marriage, and societal pressures or 19th century England but infuses it with a modern, fast-paced wit that makes it feel fresh.

To Audition:
SIGN UP for an audition slot HERE.
PREPARE: Please prepare an audition scene from the AUDITION MATERIALS folder. Audition materials will be available two weeks prior to auditions.
HOW TO PREPARE:
- Read the entire play to get a sense of the tone, world of the play, characters and relationships. (A copy of the play is included the Audition Materials folder).
- Familiarize yourself with the audition scene. Make a clear choice about the following: who your character is (status, job, upbringing, hopes, dreams); what your character wants in the scene (eg to win him over, to make him apologize, to make her shut up); and how your character goes about getting what they want (to seduce, to scold, to humiliate, etc). Also think about who you are talking TO in the scene and make a clear choice about your point of view towards that person (Are you in love with them? Think they're beneath you? Need them to help you? Think they're gross?).
- Memorize. Ideally, you should have your lines memorized or, at the very least, know your lines well enough to be able to make eye contact with your partner in key moments of the scene.
Here is a link to the AUDITION MATERIALS folder where you will find:
- Full Script
- Character Breakdown
- Audition Sides - Pick ONE to prepare for the Audition
- Audition Form and Actor Agreement - fill out, sign and bring with you to the audition. Hard copies will be available at the audition.
NOTE: Auditioning for a certain role doesn't mean you will only be considered for that role. You may be given other roles to read for at the audition.
