MARKETING & COMMUNITY RELATIONS SPECIALIST
40 hours/week; 12 month/year

DUTIES

Under direction of the assigned supervisor, the Marketing & Community Relations Specialist will assist with graphics concept development; uses advanced graphics software to produce press-ready layout for all media, coordinates and participates in outreach events and college activities, and assists the President’s office with digital media modifications and other duties.

Assist with the development of marketing materials for the District; provides technical and artistic/graphic advice.

Serve as college photographer.

Design graphics using advanced software for informational and promotional materials such as class schedules, catalogs, posters, brochures, pamphlets, web materials, signage, display materials, and others. 

Coordinate the development and production of all District printing projects to be

out-sourced; and acquires cost estimates.

Submits completed projects to originator and/or supervisor for final approval before production.

Establish effective timelines with faculty, staff and off-campus printers to develop a graphics production schedule.

Maintain the college social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.).

Operate a variety of computer hardware and graphics software to design and prepare graphics, illustrations and written materials for print and electronic publication and other District uses; researches graphic design hardware and software upgrades.

Serve as liaison with the College Community to both calendar and coordinate outreach events and activities for the District.

Serve as liaison for graphic design support to all campus academic and student service departments, including but not limited to; Athletics, Fine and Performing Arts, Clubs, Instruction, Campus Organizations, and others.

Serve on the college marketing committee; provides graphics, social media, and calendar information and support.

Assist with, plan and participate in outreach events.

Assist supervisor with website maintenance such as editing/uploading text, documents, photographs, etc.

Design modifications to the college website pages to reach a variety of target audiences.

Assist with, creation and distribution of public information to media outlets as submitted.

Provide oversight on appearance and design of college website and works with individual departments to ensure quality, completeness, and conformity with established standards.

Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE OF:
A variety of current desktop publishing software for Macintosh and PC platforms associated with photo manipulation, design, pre- and post-production, file management and archiving, multimedia, web graphics development, HTML authoring and site management software, including Indesign, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Acrobat and
Dreamweaver.
Proper methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the set up, operation, maintenance,and repair of computerized graphic arts equipment.
Advanced design concepts related to color, balance, typography, calligraphy, advertising.
Advanced illustrative art methods such as electronic graphics and traditional materials/devices.
Printing processes/techniques, such as screen, digital and offset printing.
Principles of marketing and advertising.
Basic copyright laws.
Proofing techniques.
English grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and spelling.
Methods, equipment, and materials used in photographic processing and production.
Layout procedures.
Basic recordkeeping techniques.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

ABILITY TO:
Operate a variety of word processing, graphics and desktop publishing software applications
Create artistic designs for materials to be used in organizational programs
Provide skilled graphic art services utilizing desktop publishing and a wide variety of other graphic design methods and materials
Develop and organize design and presentation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
A certificate, degree or 3 years of experience in Graphic Design or a related field.
Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite

WORKING CONDITIONS
Office environment; subject to interruptions and distractions.
Physical demands include sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs)

SALARY/BENEFITS
The monthly salary range is $3,720 - $4,651 over five years. Twelve days of vacation leave and sick leave are earned each year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. Family medical, dental, and vision benefits and employee life insurance are provided. There are 19 paid holidays annually.
