Canvas / Instructure Security Notice

Mendocino College is aware of a cyber breach in Canvas environments at institutions across the country. At this time, we are actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with appropriate professionals.

At present, there is no indication of an active threat in our network or systems. As such, Canvas access has been restored.

For Students, Faculty & Staff:

Your diligence is key to your own and our system security. Awareness is key:

  • Be cautious of suspicious or “phishy” emails, texts, or messages.
  • Do not click links in unsolicited messages claiming to be from Canvas, Instructure, or Mendocino College.
  • Access college systems directly through official Mendocino College links whenever possible.
  • Do not share your username, password, or verification codes with anyone.
  • Report suspicious messages to it-help@mendocino.edu.

Canvas / Instructure Security Notice 
Update: May 7, 2026 – 4:30 p.m. 

Mendocino College is monitoring an Instructure security breach, the company that provides Canvas. Instructure has reported a cybersecurity incident affecting colleges and universities nationwide. 

Some colleges are seeing screens in Canvas stating that attackers have stolen data from Instructure. Mendocino College has not experienced this notice.  

At this time, there is no evidence that Mendocino College’s internal systems have been compromised. This incident was not directed specifically at Mendocino College. 

Students, faculty, and staff should check their Mendocino College email regularly for official updates. The College will provide additional information by email as it becomes available. 

For Students 

  • Faculty will remain flexible regarding Canvas assignment due dates while the Canvas outage persists.  

For Faculty 

  • The Instruction office will be sending an additional email tomorrow with further guidance for faculty. 

  • Please plan to work with students to adjust due dates for assignments meant to be completed in Canvas during this outage. 

In the meantime, please continue to follow basic cybersecurity precautions:
