John Rall grew up on the coast of California, surfing, camping, and hiking in appreciation of its natural splendor. After obtaining a double major in Anthropology and Philosophy from UC Santa Cruz, he continued his education at SDSU to earn a M.A. in Comparative Literature with an emphasis in Caribbean Literature. Prior to Mendocino College, John spent nearly 15 years teaching in San Diego County teaching at SDSU, UCSD, San Diego Mesa College, Grossmont College, and Cuyamaca College. Additionally, he moved with his family to spend one year teaching abroad for an IB program at The American International School of Bolivia and his second child was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia. John also received a Fellowship with the National Writing Project in 2009, published an educational memoir and some poetry in the National Gallery of Writing, and became a Teaching Consultant for the San Diego Area Writing Project. In the Spring of 2015, John, along with his wife and three kids, outgrew their small (backyard) urban organic farm in San Diego and made the move to Northern California, now living in Upper Lake on a small organic walnut orchard and homestead.
