Director of Special Programs
Educational Administrator/Categorically Funded

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general direction of the Vice President of Student Services, plans, directs, manages and oversees multiple categorical programs within Student Services. Responsible programs include, but are not limited to: CalWORKs, Disability Resource Center (DRC), Extended Opportunity and Programs and Services (EOPS), and High School Equivalency Program (HEP).

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Provides administrative oversight for student services programs, which include budget management and reporting to the appropriate agencies.

Supervises program directors/coordinators of categorical programs, if applicable.

Collaborates with Dean of Counseling and Student Programs in the delivery of special program counseling services, such as EOPS, CalWORKs, DSPS, among others.

Develops goals and objectives, staffing recommendations, and capital outlay needs for areas of responsibility; articulates plans to others to provide direction.

Recommends, selects, trains, and supervises program managers/coordinators and staff; determines assignments; provides supervision including orientation, training, general assistance, determining priorities, and resolving problems.

Reviews legislation, education code, policies, and procedures related to responsible programs; apprises others of pending or needed changes to current practice; recommends the development of or revision to student services policies and procedures; supervises conformance to District’s policies and procedures for responsible programs.

Resolves student compliance concerns in all responsible programs.

Supports Vice President of Student Services and other personnel in the implementation of the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) and the Student Equity Program.

Works closely with the Dean of Counseling and Student Programs and the Director of Community Relations & Communications to implement a comprehensive community and student outreach strategy.

Researches, compiles, analyzes, and maintains information/data; prepares or supervises the preparation of a variety of District, State, and Federal reports; represents the District at assigned local, regional, and state meetings; serves on college committees; performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet State mandated minimum qualifications for an educational administrator:

Master’s degree and one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

Must have two (2) years full-time experience or the equivalent within the last four (4) years in one or more of the following fields:

(1) instruction or counseling or both in a higher education program for students with
disabilities;

(2) administration of a program for students with disabilities in an institution of higher
education;

(3) teaching, counseling or administration in secondary education, working predominantly
or exclusively in programs for students with disabilities; or

(4) administrative or supervisory experience in industry, government, public agencies, the
military, or private social welfare organizations, in which the responsibilities of the
position were predominantly or exclusively related to persons with disabilities.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Knowledge of:
Student services programs such as CalWORKs, Disability Resource Center, EOPS, and High School Equivalency Program (HEP).

ASSIGNMENT/SALARY BENEFITS
This educational administrator will be employed by an annual contract with an option for two-year renewals. The salary range is $90,241 to $104,466 with a maximum initial placement at Step 2. There is a $2,678 stipend for an earned doctorate. Twelve days of sick leave and twenty days of vacation are earned annually. There are twenty paid holidays.
