GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general direction of the Vice President of Student Services, plans, directs, manages and oversees the Counseling Department and a wide variety of student programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Responsible programs, facilities and services include, but are not limited to educational and personal counseling, matriculation services, SSSP, Transfer Center, mental health counseling, student life, student discipline, Student Equity and outreach programs.

Collaborates with counselors and other personnel to ensure adequate student support and development of policies and procedures that address counseling issues and initiatives within the District.

Supervises SSSP/Equity Coordinator and other assigned personnel in the development and implementation of the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) and the Student Equity Program.

Provides administrative oversight, development, and support of all counseling services provided by the District. This includes, but is not limited to, general counseling services, mental health counseling, Transfer Center, and special program counseling services, such as EOPS, CalWORKs, DSPS and CAMP among others.

Works closely with the Director of Community Relations & Communications to develop a comprehensive community and student outreach strategy. Develops and implements an effective student recruitment program; supervises, provides general direction and coordination of all District outreach staff.

Makes determinations on student disciplinary policies, procedures, and actions.

Supervises the development and monitoring of multiple student services related budgets.

Develops goals and objectives, staffing recommendations, and capital outlay needs for areas of responsibility; articulates plans to others to provide direction.

Recommends, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates counselors, and other staff; determines assignments; provides supervision including orientation, training, general assistance, determining priorities, and resolving problems.

Reviews legislation, education code, policies, and procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility; apprises others of pending or needed changes to current practice; recommends the development of or revision to policies and procedures; supervises conformance to District’s policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility.

Ensures that student government operations and procedures are consistent with the organization’s constitution, District policy, and other applicable law; attends student government meetings regularly and acts as advisor if necessary.

Researches, compiles, analyzes, and maintains information/data; prepares or supervises the preparation of a variety of District, State, and Federal reports; represents the District at assigned local, regional, and state meetings; serves on college committees; performs other duties as assigned.

Assists in the coordination and implementation of activities in relation to student clubs, organizations, committees, and student related special events.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet State mandated minimum qualifications for an educational administrator: Master’s degree and one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

Preferred experience working as a Counselor in a Community College setting.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

ASSIGNMENT/SALARY BENEFITS
This educational administrator will be employed by an annual contract with an option for two-year renewals. The salary range is $116,903 to $135,328 with a maximum initial placement at Step 2. There is a $2,678 stipend for an earned doctorate. Twelve days of sick leave and twenty days of vacation are earned annually. There are twenty paid holidays.        of appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes. What direction would you provide to
       counselors in regard to student appointments? How would you suggest a counseling
       appointment be structured? Why?

   2. Overseeing both Student Life and Student Discipline may present challenging situations and
       require differing approaches on your part. Describe your philosophy for the successful
       implementation of both.
