Learning Center

Amber is the Learning Center Assistant. The Learning Center is a place where all students are welcome. They can receive assistance with onboarding devices, navigating Canvas, build their social network, receive tutoring, study (independently, with a group, or with a tutor), test (for those with accommodations), print papers, and get supplies. It is a space that is inclusive, supportive, and friendly.

Amber assists with the management and coordination of daily operations in the Learning Center (LC):

  • Interacts with students, staff, faculty, and visitors daily
  • Assists students with such diverse needs as: onboarding devices, navigating Canvas, coordinating tutoring, finding resources on campus, scheduling and proctoring exams, sharing study and organization skills, and working through academic and personal challenges.
  • Assists students who qualify for programs (DRC, EOPS, HEP, ESL). ensuring that she understands their needs and meets them where they are at. She connects them with resources, walks them through difficult processes, talks them through struggles, shows them how to navigate courses and resources, and helps guide them as needed.
  • Recruits and trains new tutors
  • Provides tours for new students
  • Coordinates Passport to Learning and Week of Welcome (WOW; an event covering the first two weeks of each semester to orient students to support services)
  • Participates in committees, such as hiring, Classified Senate, Policies and Procedures Advisory Committee (PPAC), WOW/Passport, Equity Book Club, Classified FundRaiser, Fall Feast, Native American Motivation Day, Summer STEM Success, and MendoCares.
  • Volunteers for activities and events on campus and in the community.
  • Prepares attendance reports for Math Lab faculty and works closely with them and their students throughout each semester.
  • Manages LC website and subpages.
  • Develops marketing materials for LC and events.
  • Processes Purchase Orders (POs), Personnel Action Forms (PAFs), timesheets, and distribution of supplies to Centers.
  • Attends professional development trainings and workshops.
  • Collaborates with other staff/faculty/admin on committees, often helping with marketing/media, organization, registration, POs.
  • Maintains communication in Eagle Connect with students who are referred to the Learning Center for support.

Amber makes the Learning Center a place where all students are welcome, regardless of educational, socio-emotional, or mental health needs. Thanks to her efforts, the Learning Center is a space that is inclusive, supportive, and friendly.
