Zephyr - 04
2004 text version

S. Palmer: (detail) drawingZephyr is a word rich in literary associations meaning a mild, west wind—cool, light, refreshing to the spirit. The editorial board here at Mendocino College chose this name for our journal because it captures the essence of what we hope to showcase: words, images, and musical works that are as fresh and unpredictable as the coastal breezes that haunt our valleys.

All the work published here comes from our students and alumnae; these are emerging writers, artists, singers, and musicians in the process of honing their crafts. We chose these pieces because they demonstrate artistic merit.

In the name of free expression and in celebration of the diverse community we serve, this journal contains a wide range of material. Some of it is gritty, some of it is lofty, some light and humorous. We are proud of the broad range of our students’ life experiences, and of the art that is born of those experiences.

Visit our visual arts section to see examples of two and three-dimensional art. The literary arts section presents original poetry and short plays including a radio play as an MP3 file. In the new recording arts section listen to selections of original music by current and former students. The about zephyr section presents information about our mission, how to submit work, and our future plans. The archives section contains the complete contents of Zephyr 2002 and Zephyr 2003.
