Mission
Zephyr is dedicated to celebrating achievement in the arts and encouraging creative
excellence by providing a showcase for the highest quality student and alumnae
work in literary, recording, and visual arts.
Content
The Spring 2003 edition features works in literary and visual arts, and for
the first time, recording arts in the form of MP3 files. Entries include
classical, jazz, blues, and folk genres with many original works. The literary
arts section includes 10-minute plays and poems. The visual arts section includes
ceramics, sculpture, photography, computer graphics, drawing, painting, and
textiles.
It is hoped that selected perfoming arts events will be included in future editions of Zephyr by using streaming video.
Eligibility
Any current or former Mendocino college student may submit work.
Submission Guidelines
Entry forms and guidelines are published every Fall and are made available in
the Zephyr web site. Deadlines for entries are at the end of January for publication
in May. Watch for next year's announcement.
Visual Arts Entries
- Special Recognition
Visual arts entries that are included in Zephyr may be selected to appear in
other Mendocino College publications such as the college catalog and class schedules.
Annual Launch Party
Every May the launching of the new edition of Zephyr is celebrated with a Launch
Party. This year there will be two events. On Wednesday, May 7 at 7:00 PM in
the Little Theater this year's featured poets and two playwrights will be reading
their work, visual arts from the new issue will be projected on the big screen,
and the first Zephyr radio play plus original music by selected Zephyr musicians
will be aired. The following Wednesday, May 14th at 7 pm, also in the Little
