Like a Bean Woman

by Christy Meyer

Like a bean woman
Bent over tangled vines
My face turned towards the dark earth
Away from the sun
Which I feel like a dream above me
I pick at
Pick at
Little seeds and small flowers
Pink and purple stretching up
My back a question mark
My head a study in humiliation
I close my fingers on simplicity
This reality
And pick my way home
