Zephyr

Mendocino College Online Journal of the Arts Spring 2002 Text Version

Zephyr is a word rich in literary associations meaning a mild, west wind—cool, light, refreshing to the spirit. The editorial board here at Mendocino College chose this name for our journal because it captures the essence of what we hope to showcase: words and images that are as fresh and unpredictable as the coastal breezes that haunt our valleys.

All the work published here comes from our students and alumnae; these are emerging writers and artists in the process of honing their crafts. We chose these pieces because they demonstrate artistic merit.

In the name of free expression and in celebration of the diverse community we serve, this journal contains a wide range of material. Some of it is gritty, some of it is lofty, some light and humorous. We are proud of the broad range of our students’ life experiences, and of the art that is born of those experiences.

Visit our Visual Arts for a listing and description of all works included in the graphic version of Zephyr. Go to the Literary Arts sections where all written works are presented. The About Zephyr section presents information about our origins, mission, submission guidelines, and future plans.
