EDUCATION:

Harvard University Graduate School of Education (Ed.M. 1996)
Individualized emphasis on human development, the arts, and creativity. Program included extensive coursework with Howard Gardner (multiple intelligence theory and the study of creativity), Carol Gilligan (psychology and the arts) and Robert Kegan (adult development). Active in Student Arts Council which successfully initiated a program in Arts Education at Harvard. Coursework also included studies in dramatic literature with Robert Brustein and Jeffrey Masten.

Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University (1986-1987)
Professional actor training program. Conservatory training in acting (Meisner technique, under William Esper), voice & speech, movement, ensemble performance, and stage combat.

Stanford University (BA with distinction 1986)
Majors in Drama and English. Awarded Louis Sudler Prize for Excellence in the Creative Arts for senior thesis production of Of Mice and Men. Also awarded Robert Golden Medal for Achievement in the Humanities. Faculty included Martin Esslin, Charles Lyons, Carl Weber and Patricia Ryan.

American Conservatory Theatre: Summer Training Congress (certificate 1984)
Ten week intensive conservatory program. Primary acting teacher was Annette Bening. Other faculty included Sidney Walker, Bill Ball, Sabin Epstein, and Deborah Sussell.
 

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:

Mendocino College, Ukiah, CA

Associate Professor, Theatre Arts: 2000-present
Teach various classes, including: Introduction to Drama, Introduction to Dramatic Literature, Beginning Acting, Intermediate Acting, The Actors Voice, Acting Styles, Acting Improvisation, and Theatre Performance.  Direct two major productions annually.    Develop theatre curriculum and expand program; coordinate with arts faculty and local theatre organizations.
 

Lick-Wilmerding High School, San Francisco, CA

Theatre Director & Chair of Performing Arts Department: 1987-2000
Created award winning program in Performing Arts. Taught Acting, Advanced Acting, Directing / Dramatic Theory, Voice & Speech, and Dramatic Literature. Coordinated annual festival of student written and directed plays. Directed two major productions each year. Managed performing arts department production budgets. Additional responsibilities included initiating faculty peer evaluation program, coordinating Community Service program, teaching Freshman & Junior English, serving as an academic advisor and extensive committee work.

The Huntington Theatre Company, Boston, MA

Director & Educator: 1995-1996
Directed Drama As Discovery Institute, an intensive ten-week free program for inner city Boston students. Staged student project paralleling Huntington production of Hamlet. Taught workshops at local schools.

The Harvest Theatre Company, San Francisco, CA

Artistic Director & co-founder: 1988-1995
Founded professional theatre company and developed artistic mission. Produced seven seasons and 28 plays, including two productions at the B.A.I.T. Fringe Festival. Directed 14 productions, including plays by Shakespeare, Lanford Wilson and Tennessee Williams. Created active play development program, producing U.S. premiere of John Clifford's Light in the Village, San Francisco premiere of John Olive's Voice of the Prairie, and several new scripts by playwrights in residence. Initiated school touring program and extensive educational workshops, including summer conservatory program for high school students and internship programs for college students. Managed budget and solicited funds. Received Edith Lew Award from Bay Area Theatre Workers Association for achievement in non-traditional and color blind casting.
