Course Description

The nursing of clients with acute and chronic illness is addressed in
both inpatient and outpatient/community settings. Students study common
chronic and geratric illnesses, adaption to, and acute episodes of these
illnesses in the actute hospital setting. Physical assessment of the
client, normal development and physiology, nutrition, pharmacology,
sexuality, cultural factors, and prevention and early detection measures
appropriate to the various nursing problems are discussed. Nursing process
is utilized throughout the course in an effort to assist clients to
achieve an optimum level of wellness. An introduction to psychological
issues which may impact clients is discussed. Directed clinical
experiences in hospitals and community health agencies is required.
