COLLEGE TO OFFER ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS CONSTRUCTION CLASS IN LAKEPORT THIS FALL

Lakeport – As part of its new Sustainable Technology program, Mendocino College will offer a core requirement class for Lakeport area residents on Saturdays this fall. Beginning on August  25, Introduction to Residential Electrical Systems, SST 186, will be offered each Saturday through December 8 from 8:30 am to 4 pm at the college center on Parallel Drive and the County Fairgrounds in Lakeport.

Presented by Sustainable Technology Program Instructor and Lakeport resident Bob Samuelson, the class introduces the fundamentals of electricity as applied to residential construction and renovation. Students will be introduced to the general principles of electricity, job site considerations, and safety practices. Proper use of tools and materials will be demonstrated and applied in a hands-on lab setting in county fairgrounds facilities chosen specifically to demonstrate on-the-job construction methods. The class includes an introduction to the National Electric Code, and content on energy efficiency. It will prepare students for employment and other certification options. At the conclusion of the class, the successful student will be able to define electrical concepts, demonstrate job site safety principles, apply mathematical formulas to solve basic electrical problems, demonstrate the installation of electrical trim and lighting fixtures, and other concepts needed to complete on-the-job tasks.

“The electrical systems construction class is a good place to begin the new Sustainable Technology program and is being offered in Lakeport for the first time so local students interested in construction careers can begin the program or simply take the one class to improve their construction job skills,” says college Dean of Instruction Mark Rawitsch.

The 3-unit class will be offered at the current state community college rate of $46 per unit, plus other applicable college fees.
