Author and Editor Stefanie Freele to read at Mendocino College
Short story author and editor Stefanie Freele will read at 7:00 PM in Room 5310 in the Center for Visual and Performing Arts at Mendocino College on Thursday, March 8. The event is the second in the spring reading series that will lead up to Mendocino College Litfest on May 19th. The event is free and is sponsored by the Friends of the Mendocino College Library, an affiliate group of the Mendocino College Foundation.
Stefanie Freele was born and raised in Wisconsin and currently lives in the Northwest. Her short story collection, Feeding Strays, released by Lost Horse Press was a finalist for both the Book of the Year Award and the 2010 Binghamton University John Gardner Fiction Book Award. Surrounded by Water, a second collection of short stories, will be released by Press 53 in spring 2012. She is also the fiction editor of the Los Angeles Review. She has a MFA in fiction from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts: Whidbey Writers Workshop in Washington.
The Press Democrat wrote of Freele’s fiction that it is “a tart fun-to-read collection of loopy short stories,” and the Mid-American Review raved “…even the most domesticated stories in this collection are anything but common and anything but pedestrian in their telling.”
As author Roy Kesey, a Ukiah native said, “Her new book is terrific, and you will miss her when she's gone, so definitely don't miss her while she's there.” For more information, visit www.mendocino.edu or call (707) 468-3051.
