Students participating in the Transfer Admission Guarantee Program on the Rise at Mendocino College
This fall, 18 Mendocino College students completed Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) applications to UC schools. Students from Mendocino College have been accepted through TAG agreements into: UC Davis , UC Irvine , UC Merced , UC Riverside , UC San Diego , UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz . The program is coordinated through the college’s Career and Transfer Center and its director, Candie Dickinson.
“Not all high school students and parents are aware of this opportunity,” said Vice President of Education and Student Services Meridith Randall. “For students who know which UC they would like to attend, but who cannot enroll at a four-year school immediately out of high school, this program allows them to finish lower-division requirements much more cost-effectively, then move on.”
Candie Dickinson adds, “A junior-level community college student actually has priority consideration over other transfer applicants.” Dickinson meets with students individually about their TAGs and also offers a variety of transfer workshops throughout the school year.
By participating in a TAG program, students receive early review of their academic records, early admissions notification, and specific guidance about major preparation and general education coursework. Seven UC campuses (UC Davis , UC Irvine , UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz) offer guaranteed admission to California community college students who meet specific requirements.
The TAG application was accepted between September 1-30, 2010 for any student looking to transfer to one of the seven UC campuses for Fall 2011. The application was available to students July 1, 2010. For students wishing to transfer in Spring 2012, only UC Merced accepts TAG applications between May 1-31, 2011.
All seven UC campuses offer a variety of programs in support of transfer admission for community college students. More specific programs and support services are available to help transfer students earn their UC degrees once they have enrolled.
