Fall Classes Set to Begin at Mendocino College
In the midst of new construction and a flurry of activity, Mendocino College anticipates a record number of students for the Fall 2010 semester. “At this point, we are seeing an increase of approximately 9% in total students compared to last fall,” said Dr. Charles Duffy, Director of Institutional Research. “We are also seeing an almost 50% increase in enrollments in online classes.” Despite the influx of students, the Admissions and Records, Financial Aid and Counseling services in Ukiah and at the Centers in Willits and Lakeport are keeping up with student demand. “Our Financial Aid office actually closed to traffic for two weeks to make sure we had more checks ready for students at the beginning of the semester, “ said Meridith Randall, Vice President of Education and Student Services. “Our staff throughout the district is doing an incredible job serving students, especially after unpaid furlough days this summer.”
Along with the impact of more students, in Ukiah, everyone is adjusting to several key buildings moving east, to the other side of the entrance road. A parking lot will be ready for the first day of school and is located near the new locations for Schat’s, the Bookstore, the Nursing Department and several classrooms.
Many potential and returning students paid attention to the message that they should enroll early, and many classes are full. However, students can still come to campus this week, take placement tests and enroll in a variety of transfer, basic skills or career training classes. “We are impacted in some career areas, such as automotive, but other career tracks, such as computer technology, do have space,” said VP Randall. “There is also financial aid available, although students applying now will have a longer wait for their payments.”
The Fall 2010 schedule and other information is available at www.mendocino.edu . Students can apply and register online through the homepage, or call 468-3048 for a counseling appointment in Ukiah.
