How to Fill Out Your Promissory Note Online (E-MPN)

You must complete a Master Promissory Note online before your loan disbursement can be sent to the school. The promissory note can be called an E-MPN. You will be asked to provide two references including names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers. The first should be a parent; the second can be a friend or relative. Have this information available when you complete your promissory note.

You will need to access the Internet. If you do not have access to the Internet, you may use a computer in the Mendocino College Financial Aid Office lobby to complete your Entrance Counseling. Go to the Direct Loan website at http://studentloans.gov, under Manage loans, select the green Sign In button. Enter your information and your U.S. Department of Education PIN. The PIN is the four digit number that you used to sign your FAFSA. If you have forgotten your PIN, you can request a duplicate PIN at www.pin.ed.gov.

After you have signed on you will see your name near the top of the page. Select Complete MPN, it is listed on the left side about 2/3 of the way down the web page. Choose Stafford Subsidized/Unsubsidized in the center of the page. Enter your information, use drop down boxes as necessary to select correct data. Enter phone numbers with area codes, without spaces, and without dashes. Use the continue button to navigate to the next screen. You will come to as screen where you see sections c, d, e & g. Click each section to see the section, after reviewing the data, click continue. Enter your name, view the HTML version of the promissory note, and click continue. Your promissory note is now complete. The school and the Department of Education will be notified automatically. You can view or download a PDF of your MPN.
