Sarah Andrews
ANTARCTICA: what it teaches us about climate change and how scientists (and one mystery writer) learn it
12:30-1:30 in the Little Theatre
Sarah Andrews is the author of the Em Hansen forensic geology mystery series, which uses the vehicle of popular fiction to inform the reading public about complex ideas and issues in the geosciences. The series developed out of Sarah’s own professional experiences. It has expanded collaboratively as she works with an ever widening network of colleagues in industry, universities, and government agencies including state geological surveys, USGS, NSF, NASA, DOE, and FBI. Her most recent book, In Cold Pursuit, was based on her visits to field research stations in Antarctica on a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Sarah earned a B.A. in Geology from Colorado College and an M.S. in Earth Resources from Colorado State University. She applied her education first at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver and then applied her USGS research findings to secondary and tertiary oil recovery; this expertise in turn she applied in her management of Superfund characterization and cleanup studies at Castle Air Force Base in Merced. While writing her mystery series, she has occasionally lectured in geology at Sonoma State University.
