Mendocino College Offers Theatre Classes in Lakeport Beginning August 19

Lakeport – The Mendocino College Lake Center is pleased to announce that it will be offering two theatre production classes this fall after a hiatus of more than a decade. Theatre 220, Acting Performance, and Theatre 225, Production Performance, both presented by instructor Carol Dobusch, will meet at the Soper Reese Community Theatre in Lakeport on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning August 19. Offered in cooperation with the community theatre, the college classes will result in public performances of the fall production at Soper Reese in Lakeport in December.

Instructor and production director Carol Dobusch has chosen ”Cinderella,” an hilarious musical adaptation of the classic fairytale, written by Kate Hawley and Paul Whitworth with music by Gregg Coffin. Produced in the style of British pantos, with some female roles played by males, the play is an entertaining blend of the old Cinderella story with new twists. “Upbeat and singable music, unique new characters, humorous sub plots, and occasional audience participation provide great fun and frolic for cast and audience alike,” says Dobusch.

“We have roles for more than seventeen cast members ranging in age from young to older performers. Actors, singers, musicians, dancers, and any others interested in assisting with the production are urged to sign up for the classes with Mendocino College to be able to participate in the fall production,” Dobusch adds. Production dates have been set for the first two weekends in December at the Soper Reese Theatre. Open auditions at the first class meeting to cast specific parts will be held at the Soper Reese Theatre in Lakeport on August 19 starting at 6:30 p.m.
