Foundation 2007 Overview
At the heart of the Mendocino College Foundation’s mission is its commitment to helping students succeed. Its volunteer board understands what that means to the students’ lives as well as what it means for the community. It is no wonder that many of the board members are civic leaders who have personal backgrounds in business.
The Foundation is here to fill the gap in funding between what is provided by public assistance and what is needed for the college to meet its long-term commitment to the communities it serves.
Two of the Foundation’s goals have a direct impact on that commitment.
- Actively support student success by broadening and strengthening the scholarship program.
- Increase financing in priority areas such as career and technical programs and innovative projects which benefit the students.

To that end, the Foundation provided $100,000 in scholarships in 2007/2008 to over 67 students, many of whom are entering the college from district high schools in Lake and Mendocino counties.
In terms of program support, the Foundation was largely responsible for
funding an additional instructor for the District’s very successful Nursing
Program. Not only will twice as many worthy candidates be accepted into the program, but also twice as many nurses will graduate and be available tofill a chronic shortage in our hospitals and clinics.
