CHILD DEVELOPMENT - CDV 196; EDUCATION - EDU 196 Sample Objectives

Objective

Outcome MeasurementLearning Process
to improve my ability to instruct childrenThe students will increase their understanding of the information I am providing as evidenced by their improved scores in quizzes and assessments, and improved classroom conduct will be observed by my supervisor.I will evaluate teachers and co-workers, creating a step by step list of each different method or style I observe during my evaluation. I will compare the methods to see which is most effective. Using resources recommended by my supervisor, I will research which process and tools are necessary to become an effective learner. I will take my comparisons of instructor teaching methods, along with my research on learning methods and discuss them with my supervisor. I will then apply them in the classroom under the observation of my supervisor and co-workers, making adjustments in my approach as needed.
I will facilitate the planning, organization and development of a community service program for students.  Completed surveys indicting positive feed back from supervisor and organizations involved. A community service log for students. Meeting deadlines set up by my supervisor, during the year (such as the submission of necessary documents). Using resources approved by my supervisor, I will research and obtain information on appropriate projects for our students. I will discuss with my supervisor the most appropriate activities, scheduling and locations for the activities. I will review and create as necessary any required documents, such as field trip forms, and discuss these with my supervisor.
I will develop and implement three-dimensional math strategies for students.  Students’ math assessment scores will improve. An increase in students’ participation and enjoyment of the subject. Positive feed back from both teacher and students.  I will brainstorm creative and meaningful ideas with my supervisor, instructors and students. Research appropriate projects and materials for my supervisor’s review and approval. Introduce these activities to the class at appropriate time (relevant to topic being covered).
Appropriate classroom management (to have the ability to manage a small group of students in order to have them focus and pay attention to the lesson I teach). My students will be on task. They will maintain eye contact when I am teaching them. Increased student learning demonstrated by the quality of their work (their work will have a greater amount of correct answers and completion). Positive feedback after being observed by teacher and coordinator.  I will attend monthly Mini-Corps seminar with focus on Classroom Management strategies. I will talk with students about their behavior, and share the results with my supervisor. Have home visits with the student’s family regarding behavior. Have weekly conference with teacher and coordinator about their observations of me. Most importantly, model and practice correct behavior with students.
Ability to improve students’ success in learning mathCoordinator and teacher will observe my increased and accurate usage of math concepts and terms. I will use a variety of explanations and strategies to teach concepts and terminology. Students’ work would demonstrate increase ability in resolving math problems with greater accuracy. I will attend a Mini-Corps seminar on math strategies. I will conference on a weekly basis with teacher and my coordinator to discuss any questions I have or concerns they have about my performance. I also will preview the weekly material of new math concepts and discuss these with my supervisor and/or instructors before meeting with students.
Increase my ability to effectively communicate with Spanish speakers in a classroom setting
  • Postive feedback from my supervisor regarding improvement of my Spanish conversation skills
  • Improvement in the academic performance of the students with whom I am working on a one-to-one basis, as verified by my supervisor
  • After discussion with my supervisor, I will develop 50 Spanish words and 20 phrases that are applicable to the classroom setting. I will master the use of the new vocabulary during the semester.
  • I will listen and observe correct Spanish usage and pronunciation as spoken by my supervisor and other classroom staff
  • I will ask both staff and my students to correct my Spanish pronunication
  • I will meet with my supervisor every 2 weeks to obtain feedback and suggestions ofr improving my communication skills in the classroom.
I will improve my ability to use Spanish in teaching students skills for gardening.  I will explain what each of the tools is in English as well as in Spanish. The children who do not speak English will understand the names and uses of each tool. I will create a book with each tool and other pictures that will have the correct labels in both languages. I will research the proper names and spellings of each tool in Spanish. I will review what I have learned with the other bilingual teachers to have a clear understanding. I will complete a book of pictures with labels in both languages for my supervisor’s review. I will make revisions based on her feedback. I will practice using the book and my Spanish language skills with the children as I teach gardening lessons, making adjustments in my grammar and punctuation based on the feedback I receive from them and instructors.
I will demonstrate the ability to write a three day lesson plan for preschool children addressing a connected theme. I will write a syllabus of activities that will relate to each day of the week and have it approved by my supervisor.  I will read materials recommended or provided to me by supervisor and I will conduct my own research on materials, projects, and etc. that I can conclude in my lesson plans. I will address these with my supervisor. I will fill in a 3 day schedule with activities that relate to a theme. It will be done through art, language, reading, song and play activities. My supervisor will review and critique it as needed. I will make adjustments on the feedback receive until it becomes satisfactory to her.
