Mendocino Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Ukiah, CA – Three members from the Mendocino College women’s 2007/08 basketball team were recognized for their outstanding play this season.   Sophomore’s Ashley Shepherd (Willits), Amber Shepherd (Willits) and Katie Stiles (Willits) were named First Team All Bay Valley Conference.

Ashley Shepherd averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds per game. "Ashley really worked hard to step up and fill her position as a sophomore and leader. Her contribution to the team was huge in the post,” Mendocino Head Coach Jody Steliga said.

Amber Shepherd averaged almost 12 points and almost 7 rebounds per game. “Amber was our tallest player, and was a threat as a guard and post. Her athletic talent was very evident through many of her plays,” Steliga said.

Stiles averaged 2.5 steals, 4 assists and 13 points per game.

"She was our team captain and really stepped up taking over our point guard position. Usually a shooting guard, Katie continued to be shooting threat and important protector and distributor of the ball," Steliga said.

According to Steliga, all three sophomores averaged over 40% shooting percentage from the field. They started and played together in all 26 games except one. “The sophomores really worked hard this year. They filled their roles on the team and contributed immensely to our second place seating in conference. They are unique and competitive young women who will accomplish whatever they dedicate themselves to, I only wish them the best," Steliga added. Mendocino finished the season with a overall record of 11-15 and finished second in conference with a 10-4 record.
