Dear Honor Student,
Congratulations on your academic success at Mendocino College! I’m writing you to introduce you to Phi Theta Kappa, the international community college honor society that is dedicated to academic achievement and community service. If you are already an inducted member of PTK at Mendocino College and would like to be active this year, please call 467-1004 and let us know. Also, please skip ahead to the next page for information about what we have planned this year!
If you have not previously been inducted at Mendocino College in the past, I’m writing to officially invite you to join our Alpha Omega Lambda Chapter. In order to be eligible you must be an enrolled student and possess a 3.4 cumulative GPA in 12 or more units of degree/certificate applicable courses. Your GPA will be determined based on grades earned during your last 4 semesters. Enclosed you will find a PTK Membership Application (click to download pdf version), along with a copy of the most recent PTK membership brochure. One-time membership dues are $65 ($15 local, $5 regional, $45 national) and include the following benefits:
- The Golden Key of Phi Theta Kappa membership pin
- National Membership Certificate
- Gold seal for your Diploma indicating society membership
- “Member of Phi Theta Kappa” included on your transcript
- Privilege of wearing the gold honors stole and tassel at graduation
- Subscription to the Golden Key Newsletter
- Complimentary issue of 3.5 Plus Annual, which includes the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Directory listing all transfer scholarships exclusively for society members
- Automatic enrollment in the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Database, which is made available to four-year and senior-level institutions that actively recruit transfer students with high academic achievement
PTK members may also participate in various campus activities including speakers series, a national Satellite Seminar video series on Health issues, campus and community service projects, etc. This year, we’ve been involved with Boys and Girls Club, the Ukiah Skate Park, and we’ll be holding a canned food and book drive at graduation. Active participation in PTK events is not a requirement, however we’d love to have you involved!

An informational meeting is scheduled for: April 20, 2006, 4:30–5:30 p.m., Room 1060, Ukiah Campus
I urge you to look over the enclosed materials, fill out the PTK Application Form and bring it to the above meeting with your check made out to PTK. Applications and checks may also be submitted to Ginny Holmen in Room 1000, Ukiah Campus.
Deadline for applying is Monday, May 1, 2006 at 5:00 P.M. Once final academic records are verified, new members will be inducted at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 1060 at the Ukiah Campus. Refreshments will be served and family and friends are welcome!Once again, I congratulate you on your academic achievement and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss membership in Phi Theta Kappa.
