Research Reports

In addition to responding to specific data requests, the Office of Institutional Research conducts formal studies designed to provide information for informed decision-making. The following items are some of the reports created by the OIR which address this need:

Analysis of the Graduating Student Survey 2011-12. This report (PDF, 736K) presents analysis and discussion of the results of a survey of graduating students from 2011-12. This is the fourth year of the survey. Graduating students show a hogh level of satisfaction with Mendocino College and their experience. Most of this satisfaction is based upon the high quality of interactions with faculty, staff and other students.
Analysis and Discussion of the Spring 2011 Student Survey. This report (PDF, 501K) analysis and discusses the results of a survey of registered students conducted at Mendocino College in Spring 2011. The survey addresses many aspects of the student experience at Mendocino College.
English Enrollment and Student Success in College-level General Education Courses Using a sample from Fall 2009, this study looks at student performance in General Education courses based upon prior successful enrollment in English courses. Students who successfuly completed ENG-80 or higher had statistically significant higher grades in these courses.
Student Interest Survey This report summarizes the results of survey on student interest in participation in selected athletics programs. The survey was conducted in a sample of classes during the Fall 2010 semester.
Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act This annual survey provides data related to equity in athletics at Mendocino College. This file is a PDF of data supplied to the US Dept. of Education.

Student Enrollment and Student Demographics at Mendocino College; Fall 2000 through Spring 2007 follows internal data trends from 1999-2000 through Spring 2007. This report will updated in Fall 2010.

The External Environment; Current Conditions and Short-Term Projections is a companion piece to the internal reporting and provides information regarding the social, political, economic and educational climate in Mendocino and Lake Counties relevant to Mendocino College and planning.

2007-08 Graduate Student Questionnaire Analysis of responses and longitudinal comparisons is an analysis of responses to the survey given to students who petitioned to graduate during the 2007-08 academic year.

Report on the Graduating Student Survey 2009; Mendocino College is an analysis of responses to the survey given to students who petitioned to graduate in academic year 2008-09. This was the first year for a revised survey instrument.

Report on the Graduating Student Survey 2009-10; Mendocino College is an analysis of responses to the survey given to students who petitioned to graduate in academic year 2009-10.
Analysis of the Spring 2010 Staff Survey examines the survey responses by Mendocino College faculty and staff to the Spring 2010 survey.

Course Grouping Report. This report looks at the distribution of student enrollments and course sections offered over four Fall semesters. Courses are grouped into a variety of categories based upon transferability, Basic Skills, CTE, and other categories.

What about their other courses? Developmental student success outside of courses in the developmental Sequence examines success and retentions for basic skill students enrolled in courses other than basic skill sequences. Research examines Fall 2009 performance.

ARCC Reporting

Accountability Reporting for the Community College (ARCC) is an annual report produced in the Spring by the California Community College Chancellor's Office, pursuant to AB 1417. Student academic progress and demographic indicators are reported on for each California Community College. Community Colleges are compared to "peer groups" of community colleges on each of the indicators. The following links are to the portions of reports for Mendocino College.

Research Community of the California Community Colleges. Very helpful, with many useful references.
California Dept. of Finance Demographic Research Unit provides excellent descriptive data about the demographics of each County, Community College District enrollment projections, etc.
California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC) publishes data on student flow across segments, from high school to community college to California State University or University of California.
