English as a Second Language (ESL)

Are you thinking about college, but English is not your first language?

Do you want to improve your written or spoken English for school?

The ESL Program includes the following classes:

  • ENG 5 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE LABORATORY
Get help with reading and writing assignments from other ESL classes and practice speaking English.
  • ENG 7 ESL: INTERMEDIATE
Learn basic writing in English from the sentence to the paragraph to prepare for college classes. Develop your vocabulary and reading skills, and review basic conversation.
  • ENG 9 ESL: HIGH INTERMEDIATE
Refine written communication, and reading and study skills in this course. Learn how to turn sentences and paragraphs into essays.
  • ENG 10 BASIC READING AND WRITING
Learn to read and write to prepare for your college classes and your job. This class will develop the way you understand what you read and how you write about it.
  • ENG 11 ESL: ADVANCED
Developing skills in essay and summary writing, reading comprehension, and advanced grammar which are necessary for college work in English. Improving vocabulary and the ability to use English in academic situations.
  • ENG 500 ESL: Preparatory Level
Develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in preparation for college ESL classes. Gain confidence and practice in doing academic assignments.

How do you know which ESL class to take?

  • Placement in English classes depends on assessments

  • New students need to go through the assessment processs in The Learning Center to be appropriately placed in an English Class
