Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

Jody Steliga, Head Coach
Coach Steliga is in her second season at Mendocino College. She was born and raised in Ukiah. In her first season, Mendocino went 11-15 and 10-4 in conference. The 07’-08’ team passed the school’s win record and the three Mendocino sophomores, earned all-conference, two of which went on to play at four-year universities. Previously, Coach Steliga coached and commissioned Basketball Jones Hoop camps across northern California. Steliga was a two-year all-conference guard for the Mendocino College Eagles (2003-2005), before earning an academic and athletic, full scholarship to Concordia University, Irvine, Ca. At Concordia University (2005-2007), Steliga was team captain and an academic All-American her senior year. She earned her B.A. in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design. Joial Griffith, Assistant Coach
Coach Joial Griffith enters her first season as an assistant coach at Mendocino College. Coach Griffith is originally from Pomona, CA. She is a graduate of La Sierra Academy in Riverside, CA, where she was a four-sport athlete and captained her basketball team to the Southern Section Championship game as a senior in 2003. After graduation she attended Fullerton College. As a Hornet, she was a member of the 2003-2004 Orange Empire Conference Championship Team. She served as captain her sophomore year, as the team finished second in the OEC and earned her Associates degree. After Fullerton, She attended Concordia University, Irvine, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team and a teammate of Head Coach, Jody Steliga from 2005-2007. Both years they were a part of the teams that reached the Golden State Athletic Conference playoffs. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Sports Management. She previously coached in a youth basketball organization, Edge Basketball, in West Covina, CA. Her goal for this season is to try and make a positive impact with the players, not only on the court, but also in life.
Jaclyn Horiguchi, Assistant Coach
This is Jaclyn’s first season coaching at Mendocino College. After graduation from Middletown High School in 2002, Jaclyn attended Mendocino College from 2002 to 2004. She played volleyball her first year and basketball both years of attendance. During this time she played for Lin Barrett, and during her 2003-04 season was a captain of her team and received Most Outstanding Rebounder. She then continued her college career at CSU, Sacramento receiving a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training in 2007. Jaclyn became a Certified Athletic Trainer and moved back to Ukiah to work at Ukiah High School and volunteer at Mendocino College. After completing her job as the interim Athletic Trainer at Mendocino College earlier this year, she volunteered during the preseason basketball conditioning class. Jaclyn resides in Ukiah with her husband Naoto Horiguchi. “I enjoy coaching at Mendocino College because I love helping the ladies evolve as players and watching them bond and grow as a team.”
