Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

Coach Steliga is in her fourth season at Mendocino College. She was born and raised in Ukiah. In her first season of coaching, Mendocino went 11-15 and 10-4 in conference. The 07’-08’ team passed the school’s win record and the three Mendocino sophomores, earned all-conference, two of which went on to play at four-year universities. The Eagles have finished in the top half of the Bay Valley Conference all three years under Coach Steliga. Previously, she was a two-year all-conference guard for the Mendocino College Eagles (2003-2005), before earning an academic and athletic, full scholarship to Concordia University, Irvine, Ca. At Concordia University (2005-2007), Steliga was team captain and an academic All-American her senior year, and helped the team gain post season conference play both years. She earned her B.A. in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design and a Masters in Sports Management. In February 2010, Coach Jody Steliga was inducted into the Mendocino College Athletic Hall of Fame for her career at Mendocino College.

This is Jaclyn’s third season coaching at Mendocino College. After graduation from Middletown High School in 2002, Jaclyn attended Mendocino College from 2002 to 2004. She played volleyball her first year and basketball both years of attendance. During this time she played for Lin Barrett, and during her 2003-04 season was a captain of her team and received Most Outstanding Rebounder. She then continued her college career at CSU, Sacramento receiving a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training in 2007. Jaclyn became a Certified Athletic Trainer and moved back to Ukiah to work at Ukiah High School and volunteer at Mendocino College. She is a weight lab and basketball theory and analysis instructor. She also runs the team study hall and assists the players with tactics to succeed in class. Jaclyn resides in Ukiah with her husband Naoto Horiguchi and daughter Lucy. “I enjoy coaching at Mendocino College because I love helping the ladies evolve as players and watching them bond and grow as a team.”

 

Assistant Coach Jaqueline Sanchez


Jacqueline “Jocko” Sanchez, as a freshman in 200l-02 at Chattanooga State was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Eastern Division team and helped the Tigers advance to the 2002 NJCAA Final Four.  Jocko was the first Native American PAC-10 recipient of a full athletic scholarship, transferred to UC Berkeley in 2002. As a member of the Cal Women’s Basketball Team, she was honorable mention Academic All-Pac-10 and received Cal’s Community Service Award. She graduated with two Bachelor Degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in 2005.  Jocko works with students at the Guidiville JOM Education Program in Ukiah, CA. She continued her community service as an Assistant Coach for the Ukiah High School Varsity Girls basketball team for two seasons and volunteered with the City of Ukiah youth basketball program as well. Proud of her Native American heritage from the Paiute and Shoshone tribes, she mentors Native American youth to pursue higher education as well as enjoying coaching Native American youth basketball teams. She has also earned certification as an International Trade Specialist and traveled to Japan and Mexico to introduce Native American trade to these markets. Jocko has three older sisters and older and younger brothers who were all involved in high school and college sports. This is her first season with the Mendocino College Eagles.
