Winter Conditioning begins!

The squeaking you hear from the gym during the morning winter hours is not from either of the Mendocino College basketball teams.  Rather, it is from the football team.
Forty-five student-athletes are currently participating in winter conditioning workouts.  Twenty-five of those players played for the team last season, while nine of those 45 players red-shirted or grey-shirted.  The remaining players are individuals who are interested in joining the program and/or have transferred in at semester.
The winter conditioning program allows the players to become bigger, faster and stronger during the off-season.
Conditioning runs from Monday through Thursday from 7:10 a.m. until 9 a.m.  Workouts consist of two days of speed training and two days of plyometrics.  There are four days of lifting, with two days consisting of Olympic lifts and two days of core lifts.
Conditioning will run until spring football practice in April.  Starting April 23, the football program will have four weeks of practices outside.  The week before Spring practice, players will be involved in community service.
