Summer 2012 CSC 201 Intro to Windows Applications (3 units)

Course Description:
This course presents concepts and techniques in word processor, electronic spreadsheet, database and presentation programs. Hands on lab assignments will provide experience with relating computers to business and home applications. Topics also include discussion of operating systems, software evaluation, hardware concepts, essential terminology and introduction to graphics and telecommunications.
Recommended: English 80 or placement into English 200 through assessment.

- Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 8-12 hours per week reading, writing, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.

- Special Requirements: Email the instructor after you sign up for the class. Log into Etudes the first day of class (6/18) and follow opening day instructions. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently. Students must have access to Microsoft Office 2010 (or equivalent with instructor approval) including word processor, database, spreadsheet, desktop publisher, and presentation software.
- Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program and is intended for students who work well independently. It is strongly recommended that students who are not comfortable learning in this manner [or need more direct instruction/assistance] take a face-to-face class.
