Summer 2012   BUS136--Introduction to Management (3 units)

Course Description

This course will provide students with basic knowledge of management concepts and vocabulary. Topics covered will include the management functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Students will learn about the history of management philosophy, the characteristics of effective managers, business ethics, communication, and team work.

Recommended Prep: English 80 or placement into English 200 through assessment process

  • Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 6 to 8 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
  • Special Requirements: Log into Etudes the first day of class (6/18).
  • Assignments & Tests: Students will complete weekly chapter assignments, two written case studies, a midterm exam and a final exam.
  • Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.
