Course Description

A word-building system for developing a vocabulary in medical terminology.
May be taken for a maximum of 3 enrollments.

  • Textbook Information: Rice, Jane.  Medical Terminology:  A Word-Building Approach, 6th edition (ISBN# 0132166224) or 7th edition (ISBN# 978-0132148023).  This text will have a Companion Website and a Student Access card for a Medical Terminology Interactive program.  Approximate cost:  $70
  • Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 6 to 8 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
  • Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (6/18) and begin working on the first week’s assignment and discussion. Access to Medical Terminology Interactive.
  • Assignments & Tests: Each week questions, based on weekly lectures, simple field assignments or assigned websites will be assigned for grade points. These questions will be found in the weekly modules and will be due the Sunday of each week.   Weekly quizzes, mid-term exam and final exam will be un-proctored and can be taken from any computer. The quizzes are timed to discourage open-book and open-notes.
  • Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program and a Medical Terminology Interactive program. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.
  • New to Etudes: Here is an Online Orientation (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that will show you the basics of how to use Etudes. Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with Etudes. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through Etudes.
