Summer 2012 Astronomy 200 (3 units)

Course Description
The universe beginning with stellar objects and concluding with galaxies, cosmology, and the solar system, as well as special topics which include pulsars, black holes, and life in the universe.

- Textbook Information: 21st Century Astronomy, Hester et al., 978-0-393-93198-3, ~$100
- Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 15 hours per week reading, working on research assignments, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions. This class is not self-paced. Specific assignments and discussions are meant to be completed for the whole class at the same time.
- Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (6/18) and begin working on the first week’s assignment and discussion.
- Assignments & Tests: Assignments will include reading from the textbook and lecture notes posted online as well as participation in discussion groups. There will be approximately 6 quizzes and three exams.
- Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the ETUDES course management system. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails and private messages, and work independently.
