Summer 2009 POL204 – California Government & Politics (3 units)

Course Description
This course will provide an overview and analysis of the role of state and local governments, with special emphasis directed to the history and development of these institutions; the state and local political systems; the political environment; party, interest group, citizen and media inputs; and current problems and changing functions affecting local governments.

- Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 6 to 9 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
- Special Requirements: Computer with programs compatible to this course are required as well as an internet connection (dial up not recommended) and an email address.
- Assignments & Tests: Course requirements include weekly readings, quizzes and discussion posts, plus short essay assignments and a final exam.
- Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.
