Summer 2008 PHL230 – Religions of the World (3units)

Course Description

How does a Buddhist, a Hindu, a Taoist, a Jew, a Christian, or a Neo-Pagan approach the world?  Learn about the similarities and differences of major religious traditions practiced in the world today.  Meets cross-cultural studies requirement for graduation.

  • Estimated Time per Week:  Students can expect to spend approximately 8 to 12 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions. This is a full 17-week semester course being offered in a six week format!
  • Special Requirements: Email the instructor after you sign up for the class. Log into Etudes the first day of class (6/23).  Computer with programs compatible to this course are required as well as an internet connection (dial up not recommended) and an email address.  
  • Assignments & Tests: There will be weekly quizzes and two tests, mid-term and a final.  You will be expected to log on several times a week.  There will be fifteen modules to complete.  Each module has three basic parts. Reading the text, reading the lecture notes and taking a short quiz.  Several modules will have other sites you will need to visit.
  • Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.

Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with Etudes. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through Etudes.
