Course Description

This course will provide practical decision-making tools for individuals interested in improving their knowledge of income management, budgeting, investing, and financing.  This course will also cover taxation, insurance, and retirement as it pertains to wealth and estate management.

  • Textbook Information: Personal Finance (Please ONLY purchase from Mendocino College Bookstore).
  • Estimated Time per Week:  Students can expect to spend approximately 8 to 12 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions. This is a full 17-week semester course being offered in a six week format!
  • Special Requirements: Email the instructor after you sign up for the class. Log into Etudes the first day of class (6/23).  Computer with programs compatible to this course are required as well as an internet connection (dial up not recommended) and an email address. 
  • Assignments & Tests: Students will be assigned chapters from the text and outside sources to read and submit weekly assignments, which will include preparing a personal budget and financial plan.  There will be a mid-term and final exam taken online as well.
  • New to ETUDES: Here is an Online Orientation (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that will show you the basics of how to use ETUDES. Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES-NG.
