Course Description

This course provides an overview of the principles, concepts, and procedures of California law relating to the rights and responsibilities of juveniles—that is, those under the age of 18.

  • Textbook Information:
    • Textbook: Ramsey, Sarah & Abrams, Douglas, Children and the Law in a Nutshell, West Publishing, 4th Ed., 2011 Approx. Cost through bookstore $28.50
  • Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 4 hours per week, per unit reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
  • Special Requirements: Log into Etudes the first day of class.
  • Assignments & Tests:Readings from the text and on-line written materials, discussion forums/chat, testing via two essay writing assignments, 2 quizzes, and 1 final exam.
  • Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.

Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES.

(Type using all lower case letters)
Example:

Default Password: Month Day of birth in school records
 
(Type using all lower case letters)
Example:
Birthday is April 11th, 1982 (04/11/82)
Password = 0411

You will be prompted to create a "strong" password, if you are a returning student use the same password you previously created.
