Spring 2013 SPN 200 Elementary Spanish: Level I (5 unit)

Course Description
Beginning instruction in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Development of pronunciation, vocabulary and conversational skills within the context of the exploration of cultures, histories and peoples of the Spanish-speaking world.
This course assumes that you know no Spanish. Of course, a little background in Spanish will help you get oriented but is not a requirement. However, you must be willing to work out the intricacies of learning a foreign language online.

- Textbook Information:
The electronic text book is included in the cost of the online course. You will access it as part of the course.
- Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 9 hours per week reading, working on research assignments, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions. This class is not self-paced. Specific assignments and discussions are meant to be completed for the whole class at the same time.
- Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (8/22) and begin working on the first week’s assignment and discussion.

In addition to the assigned online exercises that must be completed within given deadlines, there are four timed chapter tests to complete. Each test is limited to one attempt.
- Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes course management system. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails and private messages, and work independently.
