Spring 2013 SOC 201 Social Problems (3 units)

Course Description
This class will study the social problems of modern society, including, but not limited to, issues related to health care, family relations, urbanization, crime, poverty, education, race relations, and an aging population.
Recommended: English 80 or placement into English 200 through assessment process (CSU/UC) AA/AS area B2; CSU area D; IGETC area 4; CAN SOC 04)

- Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 6 to 8 hours per week reading, writing, and participating in online class discussions.
- Special Requirements: Email the instructor after you sign up for the class. Log into Etudes the first day of class (1/22).
- Assignments & Tests: Students will complete in-class activities, reflections, discussions, two mid-term essays (short answer, essay) and a final essay.
- Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.
