Course Description

This is a hybrid distance education course about the fascinating branch of psychology that studies and treats psychological disorders. Through readings, videos, and discussion, many important topics will be covered including: stress; anxiety disorders; personality disorders; substance abuse; sexual disorders; depression; bi-polar disorder; schizophrenia; eating disorders; childhood disorders; therapy and treatment; and prevention of psychological disorders. • Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 5-9 hours per week reading, watching videos, working on short writing assignments, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.  This class is not self-paced.  Specific assignments and discussions are meant to be completed for the whole class at the same time.
• Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES the first day of class (01/22). Read the syllabus and email the instructor through the course site (rhock@mendocino.edu ).

• Additional Comments: This is a distance education “hybrid” course. This means that you will be working online most of the time, but we will have 4 in-person meetings (see the syllabus). The first one (1/26—10:00-10:50 in 9110) will be an orientation to the course and the other three will be 3 hours and a chance for us to discuss and review the material you’ve been studying and have an exam (3 in-class exams). For this class, you’ll need high speed Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use basic word processing, attach files, send emails and private messages, and work independently.

Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES.
