Course Description

Nearly everything in your life is related to psychology, including your personality; your relationships with others; your reactions to stress; your work and career; your memory; your dreams; your emotions; and your perceptions of the world throughout your entire life. This course will introduce you to the vast and fascinating field of psychology and provide you with valuable insights into why people behave the way they do. Introductory Psychology offers an excellent foundation for any other psychology courses you may wish to take in the future.

• Textbook Information: Gerrig, R & Zimbardo, P. (2010). Psychology and Life (19th ed). ISBN: 0-205-68591-9
• Estimated Time per Week: You should plan on approximately 5-9 hours per week reading, watching videos, working on assignments, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.  This class is not self-paced.  Specific assignments and discussions are meant to be completed for the whole class at the same time.
• Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (1/22) and email the instructor (rhock@mendocino.edu  ). You should also read the syllabus.

• Additional Comments: This is a distance education “hybrid” course. This means that you will be working online most of the time, but we will have 4 in-person meetings (see the syllabus). The first one will be an orientation (1/26; 11-11:50 in 9110) to the course and the other three will be 3 hours each and give us a chance to discuss and review the material you’ve been studying and have an exam (3 in-class exams). For this class, you’ll need high speed Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use basic word processing, attach files, send emails and private messages, and work independently.
• New to ETUDES: Here is an Online Orientation (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that will show you the basics of how to use ETUDES. Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES.
