Spring 2013 Computers and Computer Applications (3 units)

Course Description
This course presents concepts and techniques in word processor, electronic spreadsheet, database and presentation programs using Microsoft Office 2010. Hands-on assignments will provide experience with relating computers to business and home applications. Topics also include discussion of operating systems, software, hardware concepts, telecommunications and essential computer terminology.

- Textbook Information:
- Marquee Series: Microsoft Office 2010, Rutosky, 978-0-76383-771-6, cost at the college bookstore is approximately $105 new, $80 used.
- Office 2010 Professional (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) will be used for the class. It is available on campus in the computer lab, and can be purchased at the bookstore for $99.
- Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 9 hours per week reading, working on assignments, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
- Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (1/22) and begin working on the first week’s assignment and discussion.
- Assignments & Tests: Most weeks students will read 1 chapter of the book, complete all practice exercises, turn in 3 assigned exercises and take a quiz. There is a final exam at the end of the semester.
- New to Etudes: Here is an Online Orientation (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that will show you the basics of how to use Etudes. Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with Etudes. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through Etudes.
