Spring 2011 BOT 50 Medical Terminology (3 units)

Course Description
The Medical Terminology course is designed to facilitate students understanding and use of the medical terms used to describe the human body and its associated components, conditions, and processes using an on-line method. Students will learn to build a vocabulary through weekly online lecture, textbook assignments and exams. A practice CD-ROM is also included to allow students to work independently and further familiarize themselves with pronunciation and word structure.
Recommended Prep: (if needed) English 80 or placement into English 200 through assessment process

- Textbook Information: Betty Davis Jones, Comprehensive Medical Terminology, 3rd ed., New York: Delmar Publishing 2008.
- Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 6-8 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
- Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (1/24) and begin working on the first week’s assignment and discussion.
- Assignments & Tests: Students will complete 15 homework assignments, a midterm, and a final exam.
- Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the ETUDES course management system. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails and private messages, and work independently.

Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with Etudes. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through Etudes.
