Course Description

Using an on-line format, this course will direct the student’s study of lifelong human health.  This will entail exploring the relationships between the psychological, sociological, biological, legal, and moral/ethical dimensions of health, ultimately leading to optimal health and wellness.  Topics include: nutrition, physical fitness, substance abuse, reproductive health, infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases; aging, dying and death; injury prevention and consumer health.  This course is transferable to both the CSU and UC systems.
Recommended Prep: (if needed) English 80 or placement into English 200 through assessment process.

  • Textbook Information:  Access to Health (12th edition), by Rebecca Donnatelle, Pearson/Benjamin Cummings Publishing  (approximate cost new is $128.00 and used is about $96.00). Textbooks are also available from the bookstore for a full semester rental fee of about $64.00.
  • Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 6 to 8 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
  • Special Requirements: You must send an email to the instructor after you sign up for the class. Students are also required to log into Etudes the first day of class, (Monday, 08/20/2012) read the syllabus, and each of the Module assignments and send an email to the instructor confirming that they understand the course requirements.
  • Assignments & Tests: A complete listing will appear on the course syllabus.
  • Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes program. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.

You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES.
