Fall 2012  CSC 201 Introduction to Windows Applications (3 units)

Course Description

This course presents concepts and techniques in word processor, electronic spreadsheet, database and presentation programs using Microsoft Office 2010. Hands-on assignments will provide experience with relating computers to business and home applications. Topics also include discussion of operating systems, software, hardware concepts, telecommunications and essential computer terminology.

Recommended Prep: Students new to Etudes should complete the Etudes orientation (see below) prior to the beginning of the semester.

  • Textbook Information: Marquee Series: Microsoft Office 2010, Rutosky, 978-0-76383-771-6,  at college bookstore: $112 new, $84 used.
  • Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 9 hours per week reading, working on research assignments, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.  This class is not self-paced.  Specific assignments are due each week.
  • Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (8/20) and begin working on the first week’s assignment and discussion.

  • Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the ETUDES course management system. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails and private messages, and work independently.

Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with Etudes. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through Etudes.
