Fall 2010 ENG 80 Academic Reading and Writing (4 units)
Section 0316 Class Begins August 23, 2010
Course Description
Reading to improve writing and reading at the college level. Use of narrative and expository readings to develop comprehensive and response strategies, and to serve as models for written expression.
Pre-requisite: Complete ENG 12 (w/a “C” or better) or pass the placement test.
Recommended Prep: Concurrent enrollment in ENG 60 and ENG 70

- Textbook Information: Please refer to the course syllabus for this class for required texts. (Note you need to choose one of the three “extra” books, as well.)
- Estimated Time per Week: Because this is a 4-unit, intensive course, students can expect to spend approximately 12 hours per week reading, working on assignments, taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions. This class is not self-paced. Specific assignments and discussions are meant to be completed for the whole class at the same time.
- Special Requirements: Log into ETUDES by the first day of class (8/23) and begin working on the first week’s assignment and discussion.

- Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the ETUDES course management system. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails and private messages, and work independently.

Here is a flash tutorial (Flash presentation opens in a new window) that demonstrates the log in protocol. Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with Etudes. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through Etudes.
