Course Description:  ECO 200, Principles of Macroeconomics

3 units/3 hours lecture. Grade or P/NP.

This course covers economic analysis of the theory of income determination; national income accounting, business cycles, monetary and fiscal policy, the national debt, the banking system of the United States, and economic growth and development. Students will learn to use macroeconomic principles to analyze the problems of poverty, and income distribution.  (CSU/UC) AA/AS area B2; CSU area D; IGETC area”

  • Estimated Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately nine ish hours per week reading, writing, drill work and participating in online class discussions.
  • Special Requirements: Log into both Etudes and Aplia the first day of class (8-17/2009).  See the Etudes course syllabus section for details in re: log in instructions as well as access instructions to the “Thomas Course Web Site”
  • Assignments & Tests: Please see the course syllabus.  In brief, students will be reading both assignments from the Mankiw Text as well as other assigned readings; drilling weekly; participating in online weekly discussions and providing written essay work
  • Additional Comments: The entire course will be conducted online through the Etudes and Aplia programs. Students are required to have Internet access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently.
  • Aplia Orientation: Log in via the course syllabus instructions and note that our first week’s Aplia assignment is in fact a series of Aplia based tutorials.
