Fall 2008 MTH56 – Intermediate Algebra (5 units)

Section 0440 Class Begins August 18

Course Description

Prerequisite:  MTH55 or qualification for MTH 56 through the assessment process. 
Further study in algebra.  Learn to solve complex problems involving roots, radicals, exponents, and rational expressions.  Solution of linear, quadratic and cubic equations and inequalities.  Study of the conics, logarithms, sequences and series.

  • Textbook Information: Intermediate Algebra for College Students, Fifth Edition, w/MyMathLab Access Code - Blitzer
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 12 to 15 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and participating in online class discussions.
  • Special Requirements:  A calculator, non-graphing only, is suggested.
  • Assignments & Tests:  Homework and chapter tests will be completed online.  The final will be given on or before December 18 and will be taken at the Ukiah campus, or if you live outside of Mendocino or Lake County, arrangements can be made for the test to be proctored.  Please contact instructor no later than September 8 to arrange the proctor agreement.
  • Additional Comments:  Online math courses are a great way to get your math requirement out of the way while still being able to work and take other courses.  However, please note that an online math class, while rich with resources to help you succeed, do require an extra commitment – you must stay on task and on track and ask questions as soon as you have them!
